FAQ

WHAT DISTINGUISHES MIKE PUYPE FROM OTHER TRAINERS?
We encourage you to ask around and get second opinions when choosing a trainer because we are confident that anyone you ask will tell you that Mike is one of the hardest working trainers on the backside.  Mike’s typical day consists of a 3:30 arrival at the barn in order to get the first set of horses out on the track when it opens.  From there, the day doesn’t stop.  Mike takes care to ensure that each horse is on a training schedule that suits their needs and prepares them to perform on race day.  Unlike most, Mike does all the feeding and medications at the barn himself in order to make certain that everything is 100% accurate.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO KEEP A HORSE IN TRAINING?
The cost varies, but on average you can expect anywhere from $3,000 to $3,500 in bills  per horse per month.  This rough estimate includes Mike’s day rate as well as leaves room for medications and vet bills.  Keep in mind that Mike takes care to use feed and products that he feels is the best for his horses.  No corners are cut, each horse is treated equally and cared for in the best manner possible.

WHAT TYPES OF HORSES DOES MIKE TRAIN?
Mike enjoys training at all levels.  He has had success in the past with young horses, including Cobra King who won the G3 Hollywood Prevue and became a leading Kentucky Derby contender; older stakes horses such as Old Trieste, Lord Grillo, Running Flame and Cobra King.  He has also had success with the claimers; most notably Both Ways and Varadavour who went on to win stakes races while under Mike’s program.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
Simply send us an e-mail at puyperacinginfo@gmail.com and let us know what type of ownership you are interested in.  There are several ways to get involved in thoroughbred racing, depending on your personal investment.  You can own horses on your own or in partnership with others to minimalise the financial risk.  In addition, depending on the types of horses you own, (young horses, claiming horses, stakes horses) your investment will vary.
