Mizdirection’s win in the Las Cienegas Handicap on the main track on Saturday will not result in a different focus for the 4-year-old filly’s career. Trainer Mike Puype said on Sunday that Mizdirection will race mainly in turf stakes this year. He mentioned the $500,000 Just a Game Stakes over a mile on turf for fillies and mares at Belmont Park on June 9 as a possibility for her next start. “She will be on the grass next time,” he said. “The Just a Game at Belmont would be under consideration.” One option at the upcoming Hollywood Park spring-summer meeting is the $70,000 Great Lady M Stakes for fillies and mares over six furlongs on turf on May 27. The Las Cienegas was scheduled for about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course and was transferred to the main track after considerable rain on Friday. Only four started in the Las Cienegas. Mizdirection closed from last in the final three furlongs to win by a half-length, extending her winning streak to four. Mizdirection won an optional claimer and two stakes, all on turf, before the Las Cienegas. “She got the job done,” Puype said. “She’s not the same filly on the dirt as she is on the turf.” Owned by a partnership, Mizdirection has the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in November as a long-term goal, Puype said.
