Santa Anita: Mizdirection's plans call for mix of turf sprints, miles

ARCADIA, Calif. – Mizdirection will run in a mix of turf sprints and miles in coming months after reaffirming her versatility with an impressive win in Monday’s $150,000 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita. The Grade 2 Buena Vista was Mizdirection’s first start at a mile on turf since August 2011 and has left trainer Mike Puype with options throughout the nation this spring and summer. Tuesday, Puype said that no race plans had been made for Mizdirection, a 5-year-old who has won 9 of 14 starts and $1,094,621. He was more relieved that a small wound that Mizdirection suffered to the heel of her left front foot was not a problem. Mizdirection was believed to have grabbed a quarter at the start of the Buena Vista, a race she won by 2 1/4 lengths over In the Stars. “It looks like she’ll be okay,” Puype said. “I don’t think we’ll miss any time.” Mizdirection won her third consecutive stakes in the Buena Vista, a streak that began with a win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint against males here in November. Mizdirection could start in the $100,000 Las Cienegas Handicap on the hillside turf course April 13 or run at tracks such as Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, or Keeneland. “I’ll know more in another week,” Puype said. “There is one more race here. She’ll have to go on the road sometime.”
